The IV Nanotechnology International Forum has come to its end.

31 october 2011

The IV Nanotechnology International Forum “RUSNANOTECH-2011”, a global platform for discussion of innovation and nanotechnology development in Russia, took place from October 26 to October 28 in Moscow. The key subject of the year — demand for innovation; does the demand for innovation exist in Russia in general, if so, in what sectors.

The Forum involved the Exhibition RUSNANOTECH Expo 2011 – the exhibition of Russian and foreign nanotechnology products in the field of engineering; fuel and energy sector; chemical, nuclear and aero industries; aircraft engineering; shipping industry; healthcare; medicine; biotechnology and other promising areas of nanotechnology.

385 companies and organizations-participants from 107 cities on the Russian Federation and 9 countries all over the world – Australia, Great Britain, Spain, Japan, Germany, Iran, Netherlands, Finland and South Korea presented their researches and sample of products on 112 stands.

Products, presented at the Exhibition, showed different stages of innovative cycle from idea to innovation project that offers an excellent opportunity to establish direct contacts between Russian and foreign researchers, manufacturers and consumers.

President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev addressed the plenary session at the Forum’s opening on October 26, 2011. The session was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Ivanov, CEO of JSC “RUSNANO” Anatoly Chubais, President of the Skolkovo Fund Viktor Vekselberg, President of the United Aircraft Corporation Mikhail Pogosyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of JSFC “Sistema” Vladimir Evtushenkov, partner at Sequoia Capital Douglas Leone (USA), and President and founder of the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology Edward F. Crawley (USA).

“Expanding funding programmes for fundamental research remains one of our top priorities and we plan to invest considerable sums in modernizing and upgrading equipment at universities, research centres and laboratories and give impetus to creation of new programmes. About 8 billion dollars are allocated for these purposes in the promising programme through 2014”, - said Dmitry Medvedev.

In turn, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Ivanov informed that: “Enterprises established only with the participation of “RUSNANO” will produce goods for more than 20 billion roubles until the end of 2011, and with account of independent producers the volume of new market will be about 40 billion roubles”.

According to Deputy Prime Minister, one of the forms for development of Russian high technology should be nanotechnology centres which are established in the regions with the participation of JSC “RUSNANO”. In his opinion, the “RUSNANO” experience shows that there is an opportunity to create effective mechanism for search, selection and implementation of high technology projects in Russia.

According to Sergei Ivanov, today the Investment Agreements on Nanotechnology Centres Establishment have already been signed in eight cities of Russia, including Kazan and Novosibirsk.

Also, Deputy Prime Minister said that according to the schedule of the RF Government by 2015 the output of nano-products invested by RUSNANO shall be at least 300 billion roubles a year and the total output of the whole nano-industry of Russia – 900 billion roubles.

The second day of the International Forum RUSNANOTECH-2011 was held in the form of topical discussions: participants discussed application of nanotechnology in organic and printed electronics, innovative technologies in the transport infrastructure, instrument for financing innovative projects and other issues.

Four sessions devoted to advanced research and development in the field of nanoelectronics, nanophotonics and optoelectronics, quantum nanostructures, MEMS&NEMS technologies, organic and polymer material based devices were held on the third day of the Forum. Experts of world-wide reputation discussed the latest achievement in these fields and their application in the development of innovative products and technologies. Experts of “Silicone Valley”, the largest multinational innovative companies and the leading scientists of Russia shared their research experience. Oral presentations of 20 recognized leaders in this field from 8 countries have been heard in the sessions.

Traditionally the forum was attended by the Republic of Tatarstan. The exhibition stand of Tatarstan was presented by innovative developments and projects of the Republican leading enterprises on 8 key areas of nanotechnology: engineering, chemistry and petrochemistry, medicine and healthcare, information technology, power engineering and energy and resource efficiency, construction and construction materials and light industry.

The Nanotechnology Centre “Idea” established by Technopark “Idea” jointly with JSC “RUSNANO” will become one of the key elements of the innovation infrastructure of the Republic. Technopark “Idea” presented 8 projects scheduled for the implementation in the Centre within the Republican exposition:

- “Metal nano-powder technology using electrical discharge between solid metal electrodes and liquid electrolyte electrodes”

- “Predeterminated properties adhesive composite nanomaterials and its innovative products of medical and industrial application”

- “High tech antireflection and antiglare coatings based on new nanostructural composite materials with quasi-zero indices of refraction and absorption”

- “Development of solid-state ultraviolet laser”

- “Development of sulphur bitumen industrial production technology”

- “Development of technology and organization of super absorbent production”

- “Fungicidal coating for mold control in domestic premises”

- LLC “Nanopharma Development”. Development of nano-sized hormonal and oncology drugs delivery systems.

General Director of Technopark “Idea” Sergey Yushko participated as a speaker in the following section: “Nanocentres: opportunities for commercialization of research and search for technological solutions”. The section involved presentations of Nanotechnology Centres of “RUSNANO”, the participants discussed the possibilities of Nanocentres to solve technological problems of large and medium-sized industrial companies, specialization of Nanocentres in the field of technological equipment, set of business and engineering services as well as commercialization of R&D.

At the Forum General Director of Holding Company “Composite” Leonid Melamed and Rector of Kazan National Research Technological University Herman Dyakonov signed the Agreement of Cooperation. The aim of the Agreement – training of experts, post graduates and students in the field of various application composite materials. The Holding Company “Composite” schedules to establish a new platform for carbon fiber production in the Special Economic Zone “Alabuga” in the Republic of Tatarstan until the end of 2012. The staff for a new innovation production will be trained in Kazan National Research Technological University.
