QUANTUM LABORATORY OF RUSSIAN QUANTUM CENTRE MAY BE CREATED IN THE RT CENTRE OF NANOTECHNOLOGY

24 july 2013

Today Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov has met with Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Russian Quantum Centre Sergey Belousov.

The meeting was held at the Government House of the Republic of Tatarstan and was also attended by Professor of Physics, Director of the Centre of Quantum Optics at Harvard University Mikhail Lukin, German physicist, 2001 Nobel Laureate in Physics Wolfgang Ketterle, Director of Russian Quantum Centre (RQC) Ruslan Yunusov and others.

During the meeting Rustam Minnikhanov was told about the activity of Russian Quantum Centre and its current mission.

The Parties discussed the opportunity of creating in Kazan several laboratories of Russian Quantum Centre. Kazan Nanotechnology Centre and Kazan (Volga region) Federal University were considered as platforms for locating research laboratories. It is expected that experimental laboratories created under the auspices of Russian Quantum Centre will make possible to invite world-famous scientists to Kazan, generate publications and carry out reserve research activity.

According to the Rector of Kazan (Volga region) Federal University Ilshat Gafurov the groundwork for such laboratories has been laid and research work is underway. Thus, there can be created the following laboratories: quantum memory laboratory, quantum computing laboratory, new materials laboratory for quantum technologies.

Rustam Minnikhanov highly estimated the idea of creating laboratories of Russian Quantum Centre in Kazan. He asked to decide in the next two weeks on organizational and legal framework of the project, work out objectives of Kazan Federal University and Nanotechnology Centre and also determine the number of laboratories and their budgets.

It was suggested to hold an international conference on quantum technologies in Kazan in 2014. Traditionally the conference holds the School of young scientists, which is also scheduled to hold in Kazan.

To the point, the Nanotechnology Center of the Republic of Tatarstan specializes in three main areas - polymer and composite materials, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. The Center’s infrastructure is located on two platforms - Technopark "Idea" and Technopolis "Himgrad".

The main mission of the Center - commercialization of innovative projects at their early stage and provision the applicants with a full range of services - from consulting and expertise to financing of small innovative companies and renting out specialized technological and analytical equipment.
