Program refresher courses of postgraduate students and employees of

State Educational Institution High Professional Education

Kazan State Technological University

(In accordance with state contracts No. 10/1038, 10/1039, 10/1040, 10/1041 10/1042 from November 3, 2010)

The Program organizers are:

Innovative Technopark “Idea” (www.tpidea.ru), the International Department of refresher training and additional education of Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering and Technology of Arizona State University (www.asu.edu).

The training program was developed by Arizona State University in cooperation with:

  • RUSTEC (Russian technology, science and education – professor Stephen Hutnik and doctor Anatoly Korkin);

  • Department   of Chemistry and Biochemistry (Dean - professor William Petusky)

  • Other departments of Arizona State University.

Services outside of the training program were provided by company «Nano and Giga Solutions» (Dr. Anatoly Korkin).

The Training period was:

November 29, 2010 – December 17, 2010

Teaching staff:

Professors of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering, College of Technology and Innovation, technical staff of Arizona State University (Nano Fab), LeRoy Eyring Center for Solid State Science (laboratory of microscopy) and Biodesign Institute.

The training course consisted of 72 hours of lecturing material, seminars, practical training and site visits. The daily training load was 4 hours. The general course was divided into three parts. The first part included lectures for the entire group of students, the second part was divided into separate groups with expertise in areas, and the third one was the site visits and practical studies in laboratories and centers of Arizona State University.

The part I – General lectures:

  • scientific and educational centers in American universities: proposals, management and refresher training;

  • organization of training on the degree of bachelor and master;

  • innovation in universities: development and management, licensing and outsourcing IP;

  • interdisciplinary educational programs;

  • nanotechnology in Society: safety, standards and socio-economic impacts;

  • universities cooperation: industry, professional associations, funding at the expenses of organizations and state.

Part II:

  • surfaces and nanostructures;

  • materials (nano crystal structures);

  • catalysis of chemical reactions and engineering;

  • thermodynamics and quantum calculations;

  • ceramic materials;

  • polymeric and composites;

  • organic and organometallic materials;

  • technology of material development (MBE, CVD, lithography);

  • technology of material characteristics;

  • development of devices and materials for photoelectric energetic: semiconductors, thin films, quantum dots and wires;

  • fuel elements: the development of electrodes and electrolytes;

  • equipment and material for energy storage;

  • materials for power-efficiency buildings and roads;

  • environmental chemistry: solid waste treatment, water cleaning and utilization;

  • biotechnology for alternative energy source: biofuel and industrial wastes;

  • biomedicine, biomaterials in restorative medicine;

  • computer simulation in biotechnology;

  • bioelectronics and biosensors;

  • artificial photosynthesis;

  • environmental biotechnology;

  • innovation in medicine;

  • single molecule biophysics.   

Part III – Practical studies and visits to the laboratories:

  • Nanotechnology Centre

  • Microscopy Laboratory

  • Biodesign Institute

  • PTL TUV

  • Solar Energy Laboratory.
